Cross Country Prepares for Greater Louisville Classic

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU cross country teams will compete in their third event of the season Saturday, Sept. 29, when they travel to Louisville, Ky. to run in the 11th Annual Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic at E.P. ‘Tom Sawyer’ State Park.

The men’s team will compete in the 8k which is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by the women’s 5k scheduled to start at 10:15 a.m. E.P. ‘Tom Sawyer’ State Park will also be this year’s site for the NCAA Championships on November 17.

This will be the first time FGCU is competing in this event in its 11-year history. 108 teams are scheduled to compete in this year’s event, including five teams from the Atlantic Sun Conference (ETSU, FGCU, Lipscomb, Mercer and Northern Kentucky).

The Eagles are looking to improve on their strong performance at the University of Florida Gator Invitational two weeks ago. On the men’s side, junior Argeo Cruz (Immokalee, Fla./Immokalee HS) finished 14th in the 8k with a time of 25:39.8, which was the second fastest time for the 8k in FGCU history, and was also FGCU’s highest-ever finish at the invitational. Junior Gilbert Chemaoi (Eldoret, Kenya/Eastern Kentucky) finished 26th with a time of 26:09.6, while senior Alexander Schilling (Dresden Germany/Queens Univ. of Charlotte) placed 33rd with a time of 26:19.1.

Freshmen Cody Adkinson (Port Charlotte, Fla./Port Charlotte HS) and senior Dillon McGee (Indiatlantic, Fla./Melbourne HS) finished 46th and 49th, respectively. Senior Jonathan Lanning (Sarasota, Fla./Sarasota Military Academy) finished 60th with a time of 27:05.1, and freshman Aaron Rojas (Estero, Fla./Estero HS) came in 66th place with a time of 27:10.7. Freshman Jean Deceus (Immokalee, Fla./ Immokalee HS) was the last competitor for FGCU and finished in 72nd place.

For the women, junior Kelly Perzanowski (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville HS) finished 17th in the 5k with a time of 18:33.2, good for sixth all-time at FGCU. Senior Barrie Cohen (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional HS) finished 26th with a time of 19:09.6, while freshman Courtney Corradetti (San Diego, Ca./Vista HS) finished right behind her in 27th with a time of 19:10.7.

Sophomore Ali Wilbur (Saint James City, Fla./Ida S. Baker HS) finished 67th with a time of 20:13.0 and junior Gretchen MacMillan (Ocala, Fla./West Port HS) placed 91st with a time of 20:47.9. Junior Caity Hoffman (Garnerville, N.Y./Albertus Mangus HS) finished with a time of 21:04.7, followed by freshman Savanah Lacey (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo HS) with a time of 21:34.6.

Senior Alyssa Sawyer (Key West Fla./Key West HS) rounded out the competitors for FGCU when she finished with a time of 23:21.2.

Both the men’s and women’s teams finished fifth overall, which was their best finish in eight appearances at the UF Gator Invitational.
