LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Junior Argeo Cruz (Immokalee, Fla./Immokalee HS) sets a new program record in the 8k all-time at FGCU with a time of 25:20.64, good for 18th place, at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic at E.P. ‘Tom Sawyer’ State Park, Saturday morning. Cruz beat the previous record of 25:37.81 by 17 seconds, which he set at the 2010 Atlantic Sun Conference Championships when he was a freshman.

As a team, FGCU placed 11th out of 46 teams that competed in the race and was the highest Atlantic Sun Conference team. A-Sun Conference members, Northern Kentucky and Lipscomb, finished 24th and 25th respectively.

Eastern Kentucky took first place with a score of 96, followed by Grand Valley St. (108), Arkansas-Little Rock (243), Endinboro (286), Middle Tennessee St. (300), Alabama-Huntsville (345), Morehead State (354), Missouri (357), South Alabama (366), Southern Indiana (377) and FGCU (383) to round out the top 11 teams.

“Argeo obviously had a good run and there are great things coming for him” said head coach Cassandra Goodson. “Everyone on the team either had a life time best or season best. It was nice to see our guys beat Conference schools today. Our top five really stepped up today but we still have room for improvement.”

Schilling’s time of 26:02.36 is the fastest time by a senior at FGCU all-time. Junior Chris Rudloff (Ormond Beach, Fla./Mainland) was right behind Schilling when he finished 69th with a time of 26:02.80.
