FORT MYERS, Fla. – Winners of 10 consecutive matches, including nine straight conference contests, the first place FGCU volleyball team will host Mercer and Kennesaw State in a pair of Atlantic Sun Conference matches this weekend.

The Eagles (14-7, 9-0 A-Sun), off to the best start to A-Sun play in program history, will face the Bears (8-12, 4-6 A-Sun) at 6 p.m. on Friday, followed by a Saturday night (7 p.m.) matchup with the Owls of Kennesaw State (15-10, 4-6).

The Green and Blue, who have swept seven of their last nine A-Sun opponents, showcase five players that have registered at least 130 kills far this season, led by sophomore Jill Hopper’s (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown HS) team-leading 182. The Bears, losers of three of their last four conference matches, come into Friday’s matchup looking to free themselves from a logjam in the conference standings. Mercer's 4-6 A-Sun record places the team in a three-way tie fifth place in the league standings.

Mercer’s Jamie Duffy is riding a nine-match streak of double-digit dig performances. She has also topped the 10 kill mark in five of those contests.

FGCU holds a 7-2 lead in the all-time series over Mercer. The last time these two teams met in Fort Myers, the Green and Blue won 3-1 (25-20, 25-21, 24-26, 25-18) on Nov. 4, 2011. Then freshman Jill Hopper (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown HS) blasted a match-high 17 kills in the win.

The Owls are looking to get back to their winning ways this weekend after dropping three straight league matches. KSU has played well on the road thus far, holding a 6-1 record away from the Convocation Center.

The Kennesaw State defense holds opponents to a .201 attack percentage with 138 blocks and nearly 2,000 digs. Libero Camille Pedraza leads with a 4.44 digs per set average while freshman Cierra Royster leads the team with 62 blocks.

The Eagles hold a 6-2 lead in the all-time series over Kennesaw State. The last time these two teams met in Alico Arena, the Owls held the Eagles to a .103 hitting percentage as a team en route to defeating FGCU, 3-1 (24-26, 25-15, 13-25, 14-25).
