SARASOTA, Fla. – Following Sunday’s final round of play at the 35th Annual FIU Pat Bradley Invitational at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club, the FGCU women’s golf team placed 7th on the 14-team leaderboard. Sophomore Georgia Price (Winchester, England/Fort Myers HS) led the Eagles, finishing in a tie for ninth place overall.

“Today we played better as a whole, but we still have room for improvement,” said head coach Sarah Trew. “Our ultimate goal is to have five rounds in the 70s and break 300 on a consistent basis. I believe that we still have not played our best golf yet.”

Entering the day in sixth place, the Eagles shot a 305 on the final day, bringing their team score to 303-311-305/919 to place seventh, just five strokes back of sixth place Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (312-306-296/914).

“I’m very encouraged heading into the off-season,” said Trew. “If we stay hungry and keep working as hard as we have been, our scores will continue o drop. This team had made huge strides in the last month and I can’t wait for the spring to continue this trend.”

Price concluded the three-day event with a round of 74, bringing her score to 72-78-74/224 to finish in a two-way tie for ninth. The top 10 finish was the third this season for Price, who placed 6th at the LPGA Xavier Invitational (Oct. 12-14) and 1st at the Jacksonville Courtyard Classic (Oct. 15-16).

Redshirt junior Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus HS) carded a final round 74 to finish the tournament with a score of 79-74-74/227 to move up three spots on the leaderboard and tie for 14th place. Freshman Rebecca Van Etten (Trinity, Fla./JW Mitchell HS) turned in a 9-over 81 to finish t-34th (74-79-81/234).

Following an opening round 78 and a second round 82, freshman Sara Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn./Minnesota Virtual Academy HS), provided her best round of the tournament (76; 4-over) to move up four spots into 40th place.

Rounding out the FGCU scorecard was freshman Mei Khuan Yong (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia/S.M.K. Cochrane), who shot 81 in the final round to bring her score to 82-80-81/243.

FIU’s Meghan MacLaren earned medalist honors with a score of 217 (76-71-70) as the Panthers took the team title by 26 strokes.

With the fall season now in the books, the FGCU women’s golf team will have some time to prepare for the 2013 championship spring season. The Green and Blue open the spring campaign with a trip to Coral Gables, Fla. to compete at the Hurricane Invite, hosted by the University of Miami, at the Deering Bay Yacht & Country Club from Feb. 4-5. Results and recaps from the event will be available at www.FGCUAthletics.com at the conclusion of each day.
