Five Eagles Named to TopDrawerSoccer’s A-Sun Postseason Top 20 Players
FORT MYERS, Fla. – TopDrawerSoccer.com released its list of Atlantic Sun Conference Postseason Top 20 Players. The FGCU women’s soccer team landed a league-best five players on the list, led by redshirt senior defender Ashley Ciesielczyk (Oregon, Ohio/Clay HS), who came in at No. 2 overall.
Joining Ciesielczyk on the list was sophomore Shannen Wacker (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa HS), senior Danielle Faller (Elizabethtown, Pa/Elizabethtown HS), junior Kayley Clay (Cape Coral, Fla./Lynn) and sophomore Melissa Arnold (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek Regional HS).
Ciesielczyk was named the preseason and regular season Defensive Player of the Year while leading the Eagles to a program-best 14-4-3 record. She led the Eagles with 10 assists and ranked 20th in the country in both assists per game and total assists.
Wacker was next on the list, earning the No. 5 spot after scoring a team-best 11 goals and 25 points. Wacker’s 11 goals put her into a tie for the top spot in FGCU single-season history for goals in a season with Lindsay Haw, who did it back in 2007. She ranks second in the conference in both points and goals behind ETSU’s Ramey Kerns who earned the top spot in the TopDrawerSoccer.com rankings.
Faller found herself two spots behind Wacker at No. 7. She was a key contributor from the midfield position and started all 78 games in her four year career, which ranks first all-time in the FGCU record books. Faller was named to the All-Conference Second Team for the second-straight year this season.
Clay was the fourth Eagle on the list at No. 14 after recording a career-best 13 points and nine assists. She ranked second on the team in assists and fourth in points after starting in all 21 games from the midfielder position.
Lastly, Arnold was No. 16 in the rankings after starting all 21 games as a defender in her sophomore campaign. She helped limit the opposition to only 17 total goals all season and a league-best 11 shutouts. Arnold tallied only one goal this year, the game-winner against Jacksonville in the semifinals of the A-Sun Tournament.
The Eagles’ season came to an end after being defeated by the Gators in Gainesville, 2-0, in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
