FORT MYERS, Fla. – With a crowd of over 1,000 fans waiting anxiously during the team’s watch party at Alico Arena on Sunday night, the FGCU men’s basketball team learned it will be the No. 15 seed in the South Regional and will take on BIG EAST regular season co-champ and No. 2 seed Georgetown in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The two teams will meet for the first time on Friday, March 22 at 6:50 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The game will be televised on TBS with Kevin Harlan, Len Elmore and Reggie Miller on the call.

Southwest Florida’s ESPN Radio will carry the game locally on 770 AM, 96.5 FM (Lee County), 98.1 FM (Lee County), 101.5 FM (North Collier) and 105.1 FM (Naples/Marco Island) with David Moulton calling all the action.

Led by second-year head coach Andy Enfield, FGCU was the first team to clinch a spot into the field of 68 over a week ago thanks to its Atlantic Sun Tournament title and enters the NCAA Tournament in just its second year of Division I postseason eligibility with a 24-10 record. The Hoyas are 25-6 on the year, highlighted by the 14-4 BIG EAST mark that earned them a three-way share of the regular season crown.

At the A-Sun Tournament, FGCU put together three straight double figure wins as the No. 2 seed, culminating with an 88-75 win over No. 1 seed and tournament host Mercer in the championship seen on ESPN2. The top scoring team in the A-Sun (73.1 ppg), the Eagles were firing on all cylinders, averaging 77.7 points while committing less than 10 turnovers per game at the tournament. FGCU’s 88 points were the most scored against Mercer this season, who is the top defensive team in the A-Sun.

The game pins FGCU’s A-Sun-leading scoring offense (73.2) against the Hoyas’ ninth-ranked scoring defensive (55.7 ppg) in the nation. The Eagles’ up-tempo style has yielded 23 performances of 70 or more points, while Georgetown has given up less than 60 points in 21 of 31 contests.

FGCU has won 12 of its last 14 contests, while Georgetown will enter Friday’s tilt with wins in 13 of its last 15 games. The matchup features the Player of the Year from each team’s respective conference in FGCU’s Sherwood Brown (Orlando, Fla./Olympia HS) and Georgetown’s Otto Porter Jr. Both lead their teams in scoring and rebounding with Brown averaging 15.3 points and 6.4 rebounds compared to Porter Jr.’s 16.3 points and 7.4 caroms per game. Both were named the Player of the Week in their conference three times.

FGCU has an allotment of 550 tickets and must purchase a minimum of 350 tickets with Eagles Club members having first priority through noon on Tuesday. After the Tuesday deadline, season ticket holders’ orders will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis before such are available to the general public.
