FORT MYERS, Fla. – Coming off two Atlantic Sun Conference victories last week at home, the FGCU men’s tennis team will continue conference play when they travel to Georgia to face Mercer and Kennesaw State. The Eagles will face Mercer on Friday at 2:00 p.m. followed by an 11:00 a.m. match against Kennesaw State on Saturday.

The Green and Blue enter this weekend with a 7-6 record and a perfect 2-0 week in conference play. FGCU picked up its first two victories in conference play last weekend when they defeated Lipscomb, 6-1 and shut out Northern Kentucky, 7-0. The Eagles went 5-6 through non-conference action which featured wins over Oklahoma State, UConn and FAU.

FGCU has won five of its last seven matches with its only two losses coming against ranked foes.

Sophomore Jordi Vives (Barcelona, Spain/IES Ferran Tallada/USC) has won seven of his last eight matches at the top spot in the lineup, leading a singles charge that has gone 28-14 over the last seven matches. Vives, sophomore Tianyu Bao (Tianjin, China/Bayshore HS-FL) and junior Dean Tsamas (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay HS) make up the half of the lineup that has combined to go 17-4 over the last six matches. Tsamas, who won five straight prior to facing No. 67 Miami, leads the team with a 10-3 record, while Vives (7-3) and Bao (7-6) both have seven wins.

Mercer leads the all-time series at 3-2, with the Bears winning three-straight before being defeated by the Green and Blue, 4-3, last season. The all-time series between Kennesaw State is tied at 2-2 with the Eagle winning the last hea-to-head matchup, 5-2, last year.

Mercer comes into Friday with a 2-10 record on the season with its only wins coming against Jacksonville State and Georgia Southwestern. The Bears have played only one conference match this season and were handed a 7-0 defeat at North Florida last Saturday.

Kennesaw comes into the weekend with a 3-9 record on the year and 0-1 in conference play. The Owls three victories this season have come against Alabama A&M, Alabama St. and Bethune-Cookman. In its only conference game this year, Kennesaw St. was shutout by North Florida, 7-0 in Jacksonville, Fla.
