@FGCUCoachTrew Inducted Into Marietta High School Athletic Hall of Fame
MARIETTA, Ga. – FGCU women’s golf coach Sarah Trew was recently honored by Marietta High School as a member of the 10th Annual Hall of Fame induction class.
Trew and four other individuals were recognized for their accomplishments as student-athletes at Marietta High School during a luncheon on Sept. 20. The group was further honored during halftime of the Marietta-McEachern football game that evening.
"To even be considered for this honor is flattering and humbling,” explained Trew. “I was fortunate to have a coach that demanded no less than excellence from all his players and had a passion to make each of us better not only as golfers but as people. I am so grateful for Marietta High School and the Hall of Fame Committee for selecting me to the MHS Athletic Hall of Fame.”
Trew was a four-year letterwinner at Marietta before graduating in 2001. As a member of the golf team, Trew was a four-year MDJ All-Cobb County award winner. Trew set her mark as one of the top Marietta athletes by finishing as the GHSA State Golf Tournament Individual Runner Up in 2000. For her performance, Trew was named the MDJ Golfer of the Year in 2000.
The Eagles’ head coach went on to play collegiately at the University of Georgia and the University of Arkansas. While at Arkansas, Trew double majored in criminal justice and sociology and was a three-year letterwinner and a SEC Academic Honor Roll recipient from 2003-06. Trew was instrumental in developing the program into a top-10 power while helping the team to its first-ever NCAA Championship appearance in 2005. In 2006, the Razorbacks returned to the NCAA Championship, finishing 10th overall after the four-round tournament in Columbus, Ohio. Trew currently holds the 14th-lowest career stroke average in Arkansas' women's golf history.
In just two years with the Eagles, Trew has already guided the Green and Blue to the team’s best-ever showing at the Atlantic Sun Championship. The 2012-13 squad finished third at the event, while Georgia Price earned a position on the A-Sun All-Conference Second Team. Additionally, five Eagles garnered WGCA All-American Scholar honors with minimum GPAs of 3.5. In her first season at the helm, Trew led FGCU to eight top 10 finishes including four inside the top five.
