FORT MYERS, Fla., - Florida Gulf Coast University hosts Community Day Open House in celebration of its 10th anniversary 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, Saturday, October 27. The public is invited to attend and join the festivities.
Opening ceremonies will begin with a welcome by President-elect Wilson G. Bradshaw at 9:15 am at center stage located near the Student Services Plaza. Throughout the day guests will be treated to a wide range of activities. Professors will present mini lectures on topics from the national election, to student managed investment funds, to the environmental history of Southwest Florida. Most presentations are 30 minutes long to allow guests to experience as many activities as possible.
The FGCU athletic department will be on display as well. Athletics begin their day with the new women’s swimming and diving program hosting Georgia Tech, FAU and Tampa at 10:00 am in the FGCU/Lee County Aquatics Center. The women’s tennis team will also have an open scrimmage at 10:00 am at the FGCU Tennis Complex. The women’s basketball team will have an open practice beginning at 11:00 am in Alico Arena. Also beginning at 11:00 am, the baseball team will have an open scrimmage at Swanson Stadium. Following the women’s open practice in Alico Arena, the cheerleading squad will perform at 12:30. The men’s team will scrimmage in Alico Arena at 1:00 pm.
Admission is free to all events on Saturday. Tours of Alico Arena will also be available as well. The FGCU athletic department will also provide Booster Club Information as well as basketball posters, schedule cards and ticket brochures.
