FGCU Athletics Announces “Take A Kid To The Game” Weekend

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast athletics department has announced that this weekends (Jan. 23 and 24) upcoming basketball games against Mercer would be “Take A Kid To The Game" Weekend.

All youth ages 12 and under will be admitted free to both games. There will be poster making prior to the games and also an autograph session following each contest. At halftime of the game on Jan. 24, the Division 3 Masters State Championship 3-on-3 Special Olympic Basketball Team will entertain the crowd.

“We are excited about this opportunity to expose young people to FGCU Hoops,” said Florida Gulf Coast Director of Athletics Ken Kavanagh. “This will be a great opportunity for families to come out and enjoy the Eagles basketball experience.”

The women’s game against Mercer is set for a 7:05 Saturday tipoff at Alico Arena while the men’s game against the Bears is set for 2:05 p.m. Sunday.

“Take A Kid To The Game” (TAKG) is a national grassroots program designed to encourage adults to take children to NCAA sporting events and the 2009-10 season marks the 15th year the Take A Kid to the Game program has promoted women and men's basketball. With the NCAA's support, over 700 TAKG games will be hosted across the nation, which will provide thousands of youngsters the opportunity to experience college basketball.
