FORT MYERS, Fla. - FGCU Director of Athletics Ken Kavanagh announced on Monday that Patrick Pierson has been named as the school's new Director of Sports Information. He is the fourth SID in the school's history, following Jim Herlihy, Matt Fairchild and Mike Hill and will oversee all FGCU athletic communications and publicity efforts.

"We are very pleased to have Patrick joining our FGCU Athletics team,” said Kavanagh. “He comes highly recommended from all corners and we believe his high energy and significant experiences at St. Bonaventure, as well as within the Atlantic-10 Conference, will prove extremely valuable in regards to directing our very important Sports Information area. We are so fortunate to have numerous success stories to tell and I look forward to Patrick hitting the ground running and quickly establishing the key relationships to help further spread the word in regards to our outstanding collection of Eagle student-athletes and coaches.”

Kavanagh added, “I would also like to personally thank Mike Hill for his many sacrifices and contributions during his tenure as our Interim Director of Sports Information the past 18 months. In particular, Mike is to be commended for the tremendous upgrades to our www.fgcuathletics.com website. We are happy to retain his services and engaging personality, while looking forward to him being involved with an enhanced overall External Affairs unit ready to continue to publicize the wonderful FGCU Athletics on-goings and to serve our great fans to the best of our abilities."

“I couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity to join the Florida Gulf Coast family,” said Pierson. “In my brief visit to campus it was easy to see the passion that people have about the future of FGCU athletics and that’s a contagious feeling. Director of Athletics Ken Kavanagh is a terrific leader and has a great vision to where the athletic department is going, the administration is a first-class group and the coaches have accomplished a lot in such a short period of time. There couldn’t be a better time to work at FGCU because the University and athletic department are both on the verge of accomplishing big things.”
