2010 A-Sun All-Conference first team choice finishes rookie season
CLEAR WATER, Fla. – Former FGCU starting pitcher and 2010 Atlantic Sun All-Conference first team selection Pete Woodworth (Tampa, Fla./Chamberlain HS) finished up his first professional season with the Gulf Coast League (GCL) Rays on Thursday night, as they fell to the Phillies, 10-4, in game three of the league championship.
The Rays took game one, 4-1, before the Phillies took game two, 6-3, to force the third and deciding game.
Woodworth made one relief appearance in the GCL Championship, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts in game two. For the year, the righty worked 28.1 innings over 18 relief appearances. Woodworth finished with a 1-1 record, 2.24 ERA, one save and 29 strikeouts. He struck out multiple batters in his last seven appearances and gave up a run in five of 18 outings.
Woodworth went 9-2 with a 5.31 ERA over 84.2 innings of work en route to helping FGCU claim its third consecutive conference regular season title in 2010. Woodworth ranked third on the team with 67 strikeouts. Woodworth went six or more innings in 11 of 14 starts, including six outings that had a pitch-count over 100.
Woodworth finished his four-year career with a 25-9 record to tie the program record for wins. He also finished second all-time in strikeouts with 261 behind teammate and current Chicago White Sox reliever Chris Sale (288). A native of Tampa, Fla., Woodworth worked 272.2 innings over 61 appearances, including 39 starts. Woodworth ranks in the top-3 in each of the previously mentioned stats.
