Sale’s rookie campaign with the White Sox saw him make 21 appearances out of the pen, accumulating a 2-1 record, four saves and a solid 1.93 ERA. As the season grew to a close, Sale became manager Ozzie Guillen’s go-to lefty reliever due to his ability to get strikeouts. Sale struck out 32 batters in just 23.1 innings of work.
A five-time All-American for the Eagles (Ping!Baseball, Louisville Slugger, Yahoo! Sports, Baseball America, ABCA/Rawlings), Sale ranked fourth in the nation as a junior with 146 strikeouts over 103 innings. The Lakeland, Fla. product’s 11-0 record, two saves and 2.01 ERA helped the Eagles clinch their third consecutive A-Sun regular season title. Sale became the second player in program history to win the A-Sun Pitcher of the Year award and was a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award.
