With men’s and women’s basketball season tickets already on sale, the FGCU athletic department held its first two weekly drawings for those who are part of the renewal incentive program. In appreciation for its loyal early bird season ticket purchases, FGCU is holding weekly drawings during the month of April.

FGCU will be looking to replace the hardest working mascot in sports with a current or future FGCU student. FGCU Athletics has named senior men's soccer goalkeeper Adam Glick (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley HS) and senior women’s soccer forward Gina Petracco (Fort Myers, Fla./Bishop Verot) as the first recipients of the Northwestern Mutual Academic Student-Athletes of the Month award. Glick and Petracco are the Student-Athletes of the Month for October.

The Atlantic Sun Conference became the first NCAA conference to declare sand volleyball a championship sport yesterday when the sport was officially approved for conference play. The inaugural A-Sun Sand Volleyball Championship will be played this coming spring.

After a successful opening year in 2010-11, the FGCU Sports Report, produced by WGCU-TV, returns for a second season on Saturday afternoon with its first episode premiering at 4 p.m. on WGCU (Ch. 3/Ch. 440). The FGCU Sports Report, a 30-minute show which showcases all 14 Division I sports at FGCU, will keep the Southwest Florida community apprised of the FGCU Eagles’ action on a monthly basis.

The Atlantic Sun Conference and Streamline Technologies debuted a re-designed AtlanticSun.org on Monday, continuing a seven-year partnership between the entities. The fresh look takes advantage of a variety of the most current trends in online communication. Among the first features noticed by a visitor will be the integration of member institution Twitter messages in a scrolling crawl just below the top banner. Additionally, RSS feeds from each institution will be utilized on sport pages to provide the latest news from around campus. Embedded video will be featured throughout the year as the conference grows its multimedia platform.

For the second straight year, the FGCU Athletic Department will provide the unique combination of fine dining with the total sports experience when it hosts the "Night at the Nest" Gala on Sunday, Dec. 4 in Alico Arena. Over 300 attended the inaugural event in 2010 and expectations are that a capacity crowd of nearly twice that will be witnessed this year for the Eagle Club's largest fundraising event in support of all 14 FGCU Athletics teams.

Despite it being August, the student section in Alico Arena was in mid-season form on Monday night. Over 2,500 FGCU students filled seats in Alico Arena as the athletic department helped them celebrate the start of the school year with the second annual Eagle Revolution. With the attendance up over 1,000 students from the inaugural year, the Eagle Revolution is aimed to build student support for FGCU’s 14 Division I athletic programs while promoting campus unity.
