Men's Tennis Finishes Home Slate with Senior Day Match Against Stetson
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Hosting its final home match of the season, the FGCU men’s tennis team hosts Atlantic Sun rival Stetson on Senior Day on Saturday, April 7 at 12 p.m. at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
Prior to the start of the match against Stetson, FGCU will honor seniors Matt Rock (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Fort Lauderdale HS/Jacksonville University) and Steve Binninger (St. Augustine, Fla./Saint Joseph Academy HS). Binninger was recently inducted into the FGCU Hall of Fame and Rock earned 22 career doubles wins as members of the Green and Blue.
“Senior Day is always a very special day for a program,” said head coach C.J. Weber. “I’m very pleased with the accomplishments of the seniors this year and they’ve both been incredible leaders for me to build the foundation of the program.”
The Eagles (6-7, 3-3 A-Sun) fell to UNF (6-1) and defeated Jacksonville (6-1) last weekend at the FGCU Tennis Complex. The Green and Blue have non-conference wins against Georgia Southern (5-2), Bethune-Cookman (5-2) and SIU-Edwardsville (7-0).
Sophomore Dean Tsamas (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay HS) leads the team with a 8-5 dual match record and is 6-5 at No. 3 singles. Sophomore Lance Lvovsky (Dania,Fla./Broward Virtual School/Jacksonville) has a 7-6 dual match mark, playing mostly at No. 5 singles. Freshman Michael Beiler (Palm Harbor, Fla./Dunedin HS) has a team-leading 4-2 conference record and is 6-7 in dual matches.
In doubles, Lvovsky and Rock lead the team with a 6-7 dual match record, including a 3-3 mark in conference. Stetson (13-4, 4-2 A-Sun) defeated Jacksonville (6-1) and lost a tough match to UNF (4-3) in its last two matches. The Hatters are led by Maksim Levanovich, who has a 14-1 dual match record, including a 5-0 conference mark at No. 1 singles.
