FGCU Athletics has named sophomore baseball outfielder Michael Suchy (Bradenton, Fla./Southeast HS) and sophomore women's basketball forward Anthi Chatzigiakoumi (Athens, Greece/General Sr. HS of Kallithea) as recipients of the Northwestern Mutual Academic Student-Athletes of the Month award. Suchy and Chatzigiakoumi are the Academic Student-Athletes of the Month for September.

For the second straight year, the FGCU men's tennis team carried over its hard work on the court into the classroom, earning an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award for its 3.44 cumulative grade-point average (GPA).

The FGCU women's tennis team not only turned in its best Division I season in program history in 2011-12, but it also excelled in the classroom, receiving an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award. Needing a 3.2 cumulative team grade-point average (GPA) to qualify for the ITA's annual academic honor, the Eagles’ eight-player roster last year sported an impressive 3.62 combined GPA.

The FGCU women's basketball added to its banner 2011-12 campaign on Tuesday, this time for its efforts in the classroom as the 13-member squad's cumulative 3.474 grade-point average (GPA) landed the Eagles ninth on the final 2012 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division I Top 25 Team Honor Roll.

While six teams represented FGCU in the NCAA Tournament or Championship in its first-year of full postseason eligibility in 2011-12, the school’s 237 student-athletes collectively put together its best year in the classroom with a record 3.21 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) that saw 73 percent of the student-athletes achieve a 3.0 GPA for the academic year.
