Incoming Softball Freshmen Named 2012 All-State Announced by Miracle Sports

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Coming off a historic season, the FGCU softball team had three incoming freshmen in Hannah Horwath (Lake Mary, Fla./Lake Mary HS), Makensie McAvoy (Plant City, Fla./Plant City HS) and Alexis "Louie" Ross (Cape Coral, Fla./Ida Baker HS) named to the 2012 All-Florida team announced by Miracle Sports on July 6.   

Ross, from Ida Baker High School in Cape Coral, earned 6A first team honors as a catcher.  Ross had a .539 batting average with 33 runs, 18 RBI and a .593 on-base percentage as a senior.

McAvoy also earned 7A first team accolades as an outfielder after finishing her senior season at Plant City with a .446 batting average with 24 runs, 17 RBI, 17 stolen bases and a .493 on-base percentage.   

Horwath, from Lake Mary High School, was named 8A first team utility player. Horwath wrapped up her senior campaign with a .434 batting average, 23 RBI, nine doubles, two triples and five home runs.

Miracle Sports is an independent, non-profit, volunteer group of former high school, college and travel softball coaches has been responsible for ranking teams, and selecting all state players since 2008, when the group took over for the Florida Sports Writers Association.

The Green and Blue finished the season with a 38-22 record and a 14-4 mark in the A-Sun. The Eagles became the first program at the school to win a game in the NCAA Tournament after defeating fifth-seeded Florida, 2-1, on May 18. FGCU will look to defend its 2012 A-Sun regular season and Tournament titles as they return all nine starters from a team that hit 50 home runs and had a team ERA of 2.07, that ranked in the top 30 in the nation.
