FORT MYERS, Fla. - After spending last season as an assistant at Division II Tusculum College, former Eagle Audrey Campbell will return to her alma mater as an assistant coach for the FGCU volleyball team, announced by head coach Dave Nichols on Wednesday, August 8.
“We are thrilled to have Audrey join the coaching staff,” Nichols said. “She will bring an energy and passion to the sideline that will be very beneficial for everyone on the team. Audrey was a great leader as a student-athlete at FGCU and I believe that she will continue that throughout her coaching career.”
The Tampa, Fla. native, who served as FGCU’s Development Assistant for Athletic Advancement from 2009-11, will assist in all aspects of the FGCU volleyball program, including identifying, recruiting, and retention of student-athletes, conducting on-the-court coaching and tape exchange and monitoring study table. Additionally, Campbell will help in department fundraising, community involvement and scheduling.
“I’m excited and honored to be joining the FGCU volleyball coaching staff,” said Campbell. “There is nothing better than coming back to your alma mater. I can’t wait to get started and be apart of the FGCU volleyball team again. I’m eager to be back in a capacity to help the team reach its goals and hopefully chase Atlantic Sun championships and NCAA Tournament berths.”
Campbell helped lead Tusculum to an 18-13 overall record and the No. 6 seed in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional (lost to No. 3 Armstrong Atlantic, 3-0) last season. The Pioneers advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive season and recorded their sixth straight winning campaign.
As a standout middle blocker at FGCU, Campbell helped lead the Eagles to back-to-back Atlantic-Sun regular season titles (2007, 2008). She finished second in the league in hitting percentage (.407) as a junior and earned A-Sun All-Academic honors as a senior. During her two seasons for the Green and Blue, her teams posted an impressive 43-11 overall record, including 28-3 in conference play and a remarkable 19-1 record at home.
