Eagles Take Home FGCU Invitational Title for Second Straight Year

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU men’s cross country team started the 2012 season off with its second straight first place finish at the FGCU Invitational on Friday evening at Buckingham Property. Junior Argeo Cruz (Immokalee, Fla./Immokalee HS) successfully defended his individual title with a first place finish in the 8K race. Cruz finished with a time of 26:00.2.

The Blue and Green took first place with 30 points, while fellow Atlantic Sun member Lipscomb took second with 47. FAU placed third, followed by FIU and Stetson to round of the field.

Junior Chris Rudloff (Ormond Beach, Fla./Mainland HS) finished second overall with a time of 26:22.0, while sophomore Alexander Schilling (Dresden, Germany/Sportsgymnasium Dresden/Queens University of Charlotte) finished in sixth place with a time of 26:54.5. Senior Dillon McGee (Indiatlantic, Fla./Melbourne HS), freshman Cody Adkinson (Port Charlotte, Fla./Port Charlotte HS) and freshman Jean Deceus (Immokalee, Fla./Immokalee HS) occupied spots 7-9 to give FGCU five runners in the top 10.

Redshirt junior Gilbert Chemaoi (Eldoret, Kenya/Eastern Kentucky) finished 12th with a time of 27:56.3 followed by senior Jonathan Lanning (Sarasota, Fla./Sarasota Military Academy) in 13th place with a time of 28:08.4.

Junior Sanders Payne (Weston, Fla./West Broward HS) and freshman Emery Ramaswami (Ocala, Fla./Vanguard HS) finished the day with 15th and 26th place finishes.

The race provided an opportunity for the Green and Blue to preview the course which will host the 2012 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship later this year.

The Eagles will be back in action Saturday, September 15, when they travel to Gainesville, Fla. for the UF Gator Invitational. The race is scheduled to begin at 7:55 a.m.
