Suchy, Anderson, Cooney Named Summer Leagues’ Top Prospects

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Continuing to play baseball during the summer break, FGCU sophomore outfielder Michael Suchy (Bradenton, Fla./Southeast HS) and right-hander Brady Anderson (Arcadia, Fla./DeSoto County HS) were recently named top prospects in the Northwoods League, while junior right-hander Harrison Cooney (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach HS) was also selected one of the top prospects in the Valley League.

Selected by multiple media outlets, Suchy landed as high as No. 4 in the Northwoods League according to Baseball America. Meanwhile, Cooney was slotted No. 19 and Anderson was tabbed No. 28 in their respective leagues in Perfect Game’s summer prospect rankings.

Playing in 66 of 69 contests with the Willmar Stingers, Suchy ranked among the league’s best in multiple categories. The Bradenton, Fla. product hit .349, which was the eighth best average in the league, with 62 RBI and 57 runs scored, to rank second and sixth overall, respectively. Suchy connected for 22 extra-base hits, including eight home runs, and also ranked in the top 15 in the league with 37 walks. Heading to FGCU for his second season with the Green and Blue, Suchy swiped 17 bases and was only caught stealing three times.

Competing for the Front Royal Cardinals, Cooney finished the season with a 3-3 record, which tied for the team lead in wins. Through nine appearances, including eight starts, the Vero Beach, Fla. product accumulated 40 strikeouts and held opponents to a .296 average through 40.1 innings of work, holding a 4.87 ERA.

In 23 games for the Stingers, Anderson finished with a 3.00 ERA and 35 strikeouts in an even 30 innings pitched. Holding a 3-1 record as a reliever, the Arcadia, Fla. product recorded 15 saves, which was the second most in the league.
