GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The FGCU men’s cross country team finished fifth out of 17 teams at the Mt. Dew Invitational hosted by the University of Florida early Saturday morning. Junior Argeo Cruz (Immokalee, Fla./Immokalee HS) lead the Eagles with a 14th place finish with a time of 25:39.8.

Cruz’s time is the second fastest time in the 8K in FGCU history and is also the Green and Blues highest finish in eight appearances at the invite. Cruz was only two seconds behind his personal best of 25:37.8, which he set back in 2010 at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships.

“We have made good strides from the last meet. We had a good effort through this hard training period” said head coach Cassandra Goodson. “: This the the fastest they have ever run at this meet and the conditions weren't ideal. The Men were very sound.”

Host, University of Florida took first place with 28 points, while North Florida placed second with 108. Embry-Riddle placed third, followed by Florida A&M finishing fourth and the Eagles placing fifth with 144 points.

Junior Gilbert Chemaoi (Eldoret, Kenya/Eastern Kentucky) was the second Eagle to complete the race, finishing in 26th with a time of 26:09.6 while senior Alexander Schilling (Dresden, Germany/Queens Univ. of Charlotte) placed 33rd with a time of 26:19.1. Freshman Cody Adkinson (Port Charlotte, Fla./Port Charlotte HS) and senior Dillion McGee (Indiatlantic, Fla./Melbourne HS) took home 46th and 49th place, respectively.

Senior Jonathan Lanning (Sarasota, Fla./Sarasota Military Academy) finished 60th with a time of 27:05.1 while freshman Aaron Rojas (Estero, Fla./Estero HS) finished with a time of 27:10.7, good enough for 66th place. Classmate Jean Deceus (Immokalee, Fla./Immokalee HS) rounded out the competitors for FGCU when he finished in 72nd place.
