Swimming & Diving Remains in Fourth Place after Day Two of All-Florida Invite

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – FGCU Swimming and Diving team remains in fourth place with 439 points after day two of the All-Florida Invitational at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center in Gainesville Saturday night.

Host Florida still sits in first place with 780.5 points, followed by FSU with 512.5 and Miami with 445. FAU (280), North Florida (192), Nova Southeastern (113) and Rollins (10) rounded out the bottom four teams after day two.

“The Girls really stepped up tonight and we look to keep this up heading into tomorrow” said head coach Neal Studd. “Jennifer Morgan had an outstanding day and Eva Lehtonen lead by example with the way she swam.”

The Eagles picked up 56 points in the 200-yard medley relay when the team of freshmen Jennifer Morgan (Edmonton, Canada/Harry Ainlay HS), seniors Danielle Beaubrun (Vieux Fort, St. Lucia/The Bolles School), Shannon Blizzard (Jacksonville, Fla./Stanton College Prep), and Megan Wolfe (Sebring, Fla./Sebring HS/Daytona State College) finished in fourth place with a time of 1:45.36 to pick up 30 points. The other team comprised of sophomore Karen Vilorio (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Elvel School), freshman Samantha Rahael (Trinidad & Tobago/The Bolles School), sophomore Heather Coutts (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny HS/Houston) and junior Christina Tanninen (Burlington, Ontario/Nelson) finished sixth with a time of 1:48.62 to pick up the additional 26 points.

Freshman Julie Leth-Espensen (Vanloese, Copenhagen, Denmark) also added points to the team when she finished sixth in the “A” final of the 400-IM with a time of 4:27.28.

In the 200-yard freestyle “A” final, senior Eva Lehtonen (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams HS/Florida), Morgan and senior Jamie Akenberger (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green HS/BGSU) finished sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.

Beaubrun also competed in the 100-yard breaststroke and finished with a time of 1:04.94, good for fifth place in the “A” final. Morgan added a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke “A” final with a time of 56.99.

In the final women’s event of the night, both relay teams finished sixth and eighth, respectively in the 800-yard freestyle. The first relay team finished with a time of 7:40.61 followed by the second relay team with a time of 7:43.3.

FGCU will finish up competition in the final day of the All-Florida Invite, beginning at 10 a.m. on Sunday at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
