Swimming and Diving Gets Set to Host Dual Meet against FSU
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The four-time defending Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Champion FGCU women’s swimming & diving team will host its first meet of the 2012-13 season when it takes on FSU Saturday, October 6 at the FGCU Aquatics Center, beginning at 11 a.m.
The Eagles faced off with the Seminoles last weekend at the All-Florida Invite and finished 167.5 points behind FSU, who took second place. The Green and Blue had an excellent showing at the All-Florida last weekend, in which the Eagles took home third place and beat Miami, FAU, North Florida, Nova Southeastern and Rollins.
Last year, the Eagles competed against FSU twice, in a tri-meet at Miami and the All-Florida Invitational.
In individual races, FGCU had 14 top-8 finishes at the All-Florida Invite last weekend. Multiple student-athletes swam well for the Eagles including, freshmen Julie Leth-Espensen (Vanloese, Copenhagen, Denmark), Jennifer Morgan (Edmonton, Canada/Harry Ainlay HS), and senior Eva Lehtonen (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams HS/Florida).
The relay team of senior Megan Wolfe (Sebring, Fla./Sebring HS/Daytona State College), freshman Sara Hamilton (Stonehaven, Scotland/Mackie Academy), Morgan and Lehtonen took home a fourth place finish on the final day of competition in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The second team of junior Christina Tanninen (Burlington, Ontario/Nelson), senior Jamie Akenberger (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green HS/BGSU), sophomore Heather Coutts (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny HS/Houston) and junior Jessie Porter (Chorleywood, Hertforshire, United Kingdom/Royal Masonic) finished in eighth place in the same event.
