Volleyball Looks to Extend Winning Streak at Stetson on Saturday

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Winners of six consecutive matches, the FGCU volleyball team will hit the road to face Stetson in Atlantic Sun Conference action on Saturday afternoon. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
The Eagles, one of two A-Sun teams that are undefeated in conference play, enter the matchup with a 10-7 overall record (6-0 A-Sun), while the Hatters are 3-19 overall on the season with a 0-6 A-Sun record. The Green and Blue lead the all-time series 7-1 and split two meetings with Stetson in 2011.
FGCU has six players that have registered between 60 and 140 kills so far this season, led by junior Christine Pinder (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS/Houston/Central Florida CC) and sophomore Jill Hopper’s (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown HS) team-leading 130. Sophomore Whitney Masters (Muncie, Ind./Wapahani HS) leads the team with 181 digs (3.12/set). The setting duo of sophomore Gigi Meyer (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS) and junior Courtney Greenberg (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers HS/Juniata College) has run the FGCU offense, averaging 5.60 assists and 4.30 assists per set, respectively.

SCOUTING THE HATTERS
Stetson is looking to snap their 11 match losing streak.
The Hatters, who are the only A-Sun school to play six five-set matches this season, rank fourth in the A-Sun with 1.69 team blocks per set. Ellen Hawks ranks second in the A-Sun in total blocks (78) and fourth in blocks/set (0.94). Monique Russell leads the A-Sun with 361 digs, and ranks fifth in digs per set (4.35).
In the last meeting between the Eagles and SU in DeLand (Nov. 12, 2011), Stetson rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat FGCU 3-2 at the Edmunds Center. The Hatters dropped the first two sets 25-21, 27-25 before winning 25-14 win in Set 3. Stetson then picked up back-to-back three-point wins (25-22 and 15-12) to complete the comeback over the Eagles.
