ORLANDO, Fla. – For the second consecutive season, the FGCU men’s cross country team placed second at the Walt Disney World Classic, held at the Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla.

Malone finished first with a score of 36, followed by FGCU (62), Citadel (150), Tulane (156) and Savannah Art & Design (162) to round out the top five teams.

“As a team, we really had a great trip, and enjoyed the great atmosphere provided by Disney meet management” said head coach Cassandra Goodson. “The Men's race did not start the way we wanted but to their credit, we battled hard throughout and just fell short of the win. But I'm real pleased with our overall effort on a very muddy course.”

Six out of the eight competitors for FGCU placed in the top 30, led by junior Argeo Cruz (Immokalee, Fla./Immokalee HS) who finished fifth with a time of 26:01.18. Senior Alexander Schilling (Dresden Germany/Queens Univ. of Charlotte) was the second FGCU student-athlete to finish in the top 10 when he came in ninth place with a time of 26:27.64.

Junior Chris Rudloff (Ormond Beach, Fla./Mainland) and freshman Aaron Rojas (Estero, Fla./Estero HS) placed 14th and 17th, respectively, with times of 26:57.29 and 27:07.86.

Senior Dillon McGee (Indiatlantic, Fla./Melbourne HS) finished with a time of 27:25.01, good for 21st place while freshman Jean Deceus (Immokalee, Fla./Immokalee HS) placed 29th with a time of 27:44.22.

Senior Jonathan Lanning (Sarasota, Fla./Sarasota Military Academy) and freshman Emery Ramaswami (Ocala, Fla./Vanguard HS) were the final FGCU competitors to cross the finish line, finishing with times of 29:03.29 and 29:24.05, respectively.

The cross country team will travel back up to Orlando, Fla. Friday, October, 12 to race in the UCF Black & Gold Challenge. The men’s event is scheduled to begin at 5:40 p.m.
