FORT MYERS, Fla. - Under the direction of second-year head coach Sarah Trew, the FGCU women’s golf team will head to Daytona Beach, Fla. to participate in the 2012 LPGA Xavier Collegiate Invitational at the LPGA International Golf Course, Oct. 12-14.
The 14-team field, that includes Alabama-Birmingham, Bethune-Cookman, Daytona State, FGCU, Louisiana Monroe, McNeese State, Mercer, North Dakota, Northern Kentucky, North Florida, Old Dominion, South Dakota State, Stetson and Xavier, got its practice rounds in Thursday in preparation for the three-day tournament.
The tournament will be played on the LPGA International Golf Course, which has been the home course of the LPGA Tour since 1994 and has a 6,178-yard, par-72 configuration. The Xavier Invitational is a 54-hole tournament with 18 holes played on each day of competition. The first two rounds will have a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. and the final round will have a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. After the first day of competition, hole assignments will be determined by teams’ 18-hole, and then 36-hole scores.

The Green and Blue will sport the five-person lineup of sophomore Georgia Price (Winchester, England/Fort Myers HS), redshirt freshman Kristin Swindell (Bradenton, Fla./Braden River HS) and freshmen Rebecca Van Etten (Trinity, Fla. /JW Mitchell HS), Mei Khuan Yong (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia/S.M.K. Cochrane) and Sara Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn./Minnesota Virtual Academy HS).
