TUSCON, Ariz. – The Florida Gulf Coast baseball team is getting ready to begin its highly-anticipated 2013 season in about a month from now, but it got its first preseason recognition on Dec. 20 when it received votes in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Fabulous 40 NCAA Division I pre-season baseball poll.
This marks the first time that the Eagles have received votes in the Collegiate Baseball preseason poll since they were ranked 38th in the poll in 2010.
FGCU was joined by three other Atlantic Sun Conference teams in the preseason poll as Mercer, USC Upstate and Kennesaw State also garnered votes.
The poll also had 10 of the Eagles 2013 non-conference opponents receive votes as well as St. John’s, Notre Dame, Florida, who was ranked 24th, Manhattan, FAU, Michigan, FIU, USF, Florida State, who was ranked 19th and Bethune-Cookman.
Arkansas took home the top spot in the poll as they finished last season with a 46-22 record. ACC power North Carolina was tabbed second, while Vanderbilt, LSU and UCLA rounded out the top five.
