FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast women's basketball team earned the No. 12 position, for the second consecutive week, in the 13th edition of the 2012-13 CollegeInsider.com Women's Basketball Mid-Major Top 25 poll, announced on Tuesday night.
Delaware (15-3), ranked No. 25 in the AP Top 25, along with Green Bay (16-2), Gonzaga (16-5), Chattanooga (16-3) and Princeton (10-5) hold the top five spots in the poll.
The Mid-Major Poll is made up of teams from the following conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt and West Coast.
The Eagles (16-5, 9-0 A-Sun), winners of 27 consecutive Atlantic Sun Conference regular season games, are the lone Atlantic Sun Conference team represented in the Top 25.
In the FGCU’s last game (Jan. 26), freshman Jaime Gluesing (Solon, Ohio/Solon HS) scored a career-high 15 points as the Eagles knocked down 11 three-pointers en route to a huge 74-55 Atlantic Sun Conference victory over rival Stetson in front of 3,234 rowdy fans at Alico Arena. The Green and Blue’s win moved them into sole possession of first place in the A-Sun and snapped SU’s 11-game winning streak, which ranked as the third-longest active streak in the NCAA, trailing only Baylor and Notre Dame.
The Eagles, who have compiled an impressive 91-12 record in A-Sun games since making the move to Division I in 2007-08, will now hit the road for a pair of conference contests. FGCU will take on the Dolphins of Jacksonville in Duval County on Feb. 2 (1 p.m.), before facing UNF at UNF Arena on Feb. 4 (7 p.m.).
