Women's Golf Prepares for The Le Triomphe Collegiate Invitational

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The FGCU women’s golf team will prepare for its second tournament of the 2013 spring season with a trip to Broussard, La. to participate in the 2013 Le Triomphe Collegiate Invitational at Le Triomphe Golf & Country Club, Feb. 18-19.

“We are coming off a solid finish at Miami and are very excited about this event,” said head coach Sarah Trew. “We now have the first tournament under our belt and feel a little more relaxed and in our normal groove.  I think this course should set up well for us to be successful.” 

The Eagles are coming off a 10th place finish at the Hurricane Invitational which saw redshirt freshman Kristin Swindell (Bradenton, Fla.) lead the Eagles with a tie for 29th place overall with a total score of 231 (18-over par).

The 16-team field includes Chicago State, Centenary College, Central Arkansas, Houston Baptist, Lamar, McNeese State, McLennan CC, USC Upstate, Shorter, Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston State, South Alabama, Texas Pan American, Toledo and Xavier.

The Le Triomphe Collegiate Invitational will be played on the Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed course. Layout for the course is a 6,226-yards, par-72 configuration. The tournament consists of 36 holes of continuous play on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday in a staggered shotgun format.

The Green and Blue will sport the five-person lineup of redshirt juniors Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus HS), sophomores Georgia Price (Winchester, England/Fort Myers HS) and Chelsea Guoynes (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City Central HS) and freshmen Rebecca Van Etten (Trinity, Fla./JW Mitchell HS) and Sara Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn./Minnesota Virtual Academy HS).
