FORT MYERS, Fla. – For the first time in the six-year program history of FGCU women’s swimming and diving, senior Maegan Butler (Orangeburg, N.Y./Tappan Zee/FAU) will represent the Green and Blue at the NCAA Diving Zones, held Monday through Wednesday, March 11-13, at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn. Day one and day two will begin at 11 a.m. with the final day starting at 10:30 a.m.
Butler will compete in the 3-meter diving championship Monday and return to the pool Tuesday to compete in the 1-meter board event. Butler will not compete in the platform diving on day three.
The Orangeburg, N.Y. product was recently named the Most Outstanding Diver of the Meet for the second consecutive year at the 2013 CCSA Championships. Butler won both the 1-meter and 3-meter board, and set a meet record in the 3-meter event.
Butler first qualified for the NCAA Diving Zones back on January 7th in a dual meet against Radford. Butler won the 1-meter board event with a score of 271.80. At the CCSA Championship, she set a new FGCU and meet record in the 3-meter board event with a score of 314.75 on the final day of the competition.
The NCAA Diving Zones consist of five zones with the top 41 divers moving on to the NCAA Championships.
Butler will look to join sophomore Emma Svensson (Upsala, Sweden/Celsiusskolan) at the 2013 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships March 21-23 in Indianapolis Ind. Svensson qualified for both the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard back events. This will be Svensson’s second time participating in the NCAA Championships.
