Ocala, Fla. – Led by sophomore Chelsea Guoynes’ (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City Central HS) three-over par 75, the FGCU women’s golf team sits in a tie for 11thplace on the 14-team leaderboard after day one at the 2013 Ocala Spring Invitational at the Juliette Falls Golf Course Sunday afternoon.
"Today we didn't play our best but there were a lot of good things we can take away," said head coach Sarah Trew. "We hit some good shots and did a good job of staying patient. Tomorrow we just need to stick to our gameplan of committing to every shot and trying to eliminate those big numbers and we will be in good shape."
The Green and Blue combined for an opening round score of 315 (27-over par) to position themselves in a tie for 11th on leaderboard. Mercer leads the tournament with an opening round score of 293 (5-over par). Stetson (297), Toledo (298), Morehead State (302), Western Kentucky (303) and Appalachian State (303) all finished in the top five.
