FORT MYERS, Fla. – Coming off a basketball season in which the two teams combined for a school Division I record 53 wins, including a 28-3 mark in Alico Arena, FGCU men’s and women’s basketball season tickets are already on sale and on Friday the FGCU athletic department held its first weekly drawing for those who are part of the renewal incentive program.
In appreciation for its loyal early bird season ticket purchases, FGCU is holding a weekly drawing during the month of May. Jack Long is this month’s first winner, taking home a reserved parking pass for Alico Arena during the 2013-14 season.
With three drawings remaining, fans can still get into the season ticket renewal incentive program and get a discount off of 2013-14 general rates by renewing prior to May 24th. Those current season ticket holders who do not renew prior to May 24th will still have until June 28th to purchase their ticket(s) at the upgraded 2013-14 prices before their seats are released. Ticket(s) must be purchased by the dates listed below to be entered into the final three drawings.
May 6-10: Alico Arena suite for a men’s or women’s game on a mutually agreed upon date
May 13-17: Two (2) tickets to the 2014 men’s & women’s basketball postseason banquets
May 20-24: Autographed basketball from the 2013-14 men’s & women’s basketball teams
New season ticket holders are also encouraged to purchase now, as these orders will be filled in June based on a first-come, first-served basis. The deadline to renew season tickets is Friday, June 28th. Fans interested in purchasing new season tickets can place a $50 non-refundable deposit to get on a Priority List. The ticket office will contact the Priority List during the week of July 15th to reserve specific seats.
Combined season tickets for both the men’s and women’s teams are available again for a combined 50 percent discount. Season tickets for either the men’s and women’s program range from $112-$332, while a combined season ticket (both teams) ranges from $169-$499 depending on the seat location and whether or not an individual is a renewal or new purchaser.
Tickets can be purchased in person at the Alico Arena ticket office or by phone at 239-590-7145. The FGCU ticket office is open from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. from Monday through Friday.
On the men’s side, FGCU won 14 of its last 17 games to finish with a program Division I record 26 wins (26-11). The Eagles used a 13-5 A-Sun record in the regular season to earn the No. 2 seed in the conference postseason tournament before posting three consecutive double-digit wins en route to the A-Sun title and automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament in just its second year of postseason eligibility. FGCU became the first No. 15 seed in NCAA Tournament history to advance to the Sweet 16 and the first team since the 1987 Florida squad to win its first two tournament games. The Eagles opened with a second round win over No. 2 seed Georgetown and followed with a win over No. 7 seed San Diego State in the third round to earn a trip to Dallas Cowboys Stadium for the South Region semifinals.
On the women’s side, FGCU became the first school to go undefeated in A-Sun play in back-to-back seasons, finishing the season with the most victories (27) of the 13 Division I institutions in the state of Florida and captured the program’s third consecutive A-Sun Regular Season crown (fourth in the last five years). FGCU secured the ninth-straight 21+ win in program history and participated in their sixth consecutive Division I postseason tournament (WNIT). Leading the nation and the Atlantic Sun in three-point field goals per game (9.4), for the second year in a row, the FGCU women’s basketball team ranked in the top 40 in the country in 13 different statistical categories in the final NCAA rankings.
