TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – FGCU men’s golf freshman Edward Figueroa (Naples, Fla./St. John Neumann) kept himself in contention for the advancing Tallahassee Regional individual spot on Friday, carding a second round even-par 72 to sit in a tie for 20th place a Golden Eagle Golf & Country Club.
Figueroa’s 72 comes after his opening round four-under par 68 on Thursday as his two round total of 140 has him in front of six Top 100 players in the Tallahassee Regional. He will begin Saturday’s final round at 9:40 a.m. going off the 10th tee.
With 33 of the 75 participating players under-par through two rounds, Figueroa is five shots back of the individual leader that is currently not on one of the top five advancing teams. Fellow A-Sun member UNF (272-277/549) sits two strokes up on Washington (276-275/551) for the lead, while first round leader MJ Maguire backed up his seven-under 65 with a four-under 68 to still pace the field.
Figueroa brought his two-day birdie total to 10 with four more on Friday. The Naples, Fla. product started the day on the back 9 with a one-under 35, making him four-under for the tournament on the par-72, 6,965-yard course’s final nine holes. After getting it two-under through 11 holes, Figueroa finished even-par, closing with five consecutive pars.
The Tallahassee Regional is made up of 13 teams and 10 individuals. A total of 50 players will be competing for the one individual spot after the five advancing teams’ players are factored out.
