SARASOTA, Fla. – The FGCU women’s golf team added 14 strokes to its first round score to produce a team card of 310 during the second round of play at the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational on Monday.  Senior Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus High School) led the Eagles with a one-under score of 71 through the second round and currently holds a tie at eighth place.  Carlson’s low second-round score was the second best score in the field of 93 golfers.

Daytona State College carded a team score of 287 in the second round to jump to the top of the standings with a combined score of 580.  First-day leader and host, FIU, dropped to third place with a 298 (585 overall), while Maryland holds second place with a total 584.  Missouri (587) and North Texas (595) round out the top five, while Cincinnati (596), Memphis (598), Southern Mississippi (598) and Delaware (599) sit ahead of the Eagles entering the final round.

Daytona State’s So Young Hwand and Missouri’s Taylor Gohn currently hold a tie for first place, each with a score of 140 through two rounds.

“Today we struggled in comparison to yesterday, but we are doing a much better job overall of keeping our composure and playing smarter golf,” said head coach Sarah Trew.  “I think today we got a little tired as we gave away a few shots coming in.  I am proud of Briana for her round today, she gave herself many opportunities but her putts just didn’t fall the way she would have liked.  I know tomorrow will be a better round for the team collectively if we keep improving our attitudes and stick to the game plan.”

Carlson recorded birdies on holes 7, 9 and 11 with just two bogeys on the day to finish one-under par in the second round.  Combined with her first-round score of 72, the veteran maintains an overall card of 143, just three strokes behind the tournament leaders.

After recording a team-best score of 71 in the first round, junior Georgia Price (Bude, England/Fort Myers High School) finished Monday’s round with a score of 78.  Price struggled with two double-bogeys on the day but maintains a tie for 26th place in the field with an overall score of 149 and falls just six strokes behind Carlson.

Mei Khuan Yong (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia/S.M.K. Cochrane) finished among the field’s top half with a score of 77 in the second round.  The 77, paired with Yong’s first-round score of 75, puts her at 42nd in the field with a combined score of 152.

Megan Van Etten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell High School) was the final golfer on the Eagles’ team score and concluded the day with a score of 84, five strokes better than her first-round performance.  Van Etten holds a combined score of 173.

Chelsea Guoynes (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City Central High School) rounded out the Eagles’ lineup with a mark of 85 in the second round.  Guoynes carded a 78 in round one for a total 163.

Individually, Sara Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn./Minnesota Virtual Academy) ranked 51st in the field with a second-round score of 79 and a total 154.  Rebecca Van Etten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell High School) improved her first-round score by 10 strokes on Monday and enters Tuesday’s final round with a total score of 170.

The FIU Pat Bradley Invitational will continue Tuesday with one more round of 18 beginning at 9 a.m.  The Eagles will be paired with Atlantic Sun foe Jacksonville and Bethune-Cookman.  Final results will be found at FIUSports.com and on GolfStat.com.
