SARASOTA, Fla. – The FGCU women’s golf team dropped 12 strokes from its second-round total to card a 298 in the final round of play at the 36th Annual FIU Pat Bradley Invitational on Tuesday.  The Eagles finished the three-day event held at Lakewood Ranch Country Club with a team total of 904 and a ranking of 10th in the field, while senior Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus High School) took sixth place among 93 golfers with a total score of 214.

“Today we played really well,” said head coach Sarah Trew.  “Coming into the tournament, we made it a goal as a team to focus on what we can control and to keep our attitudes positive, even when we hit rough patches.  I think we accomplished that goal through all three rounds and I’m really proud of that and the way we stayed patient and kept our composure.  We need to work on getting our fourth score to be better, but I think we’re on the verge of doing really well as a team. ”

Missouri recorded a team score of 286 on the day to jump ahead on the leaderboard and take first place with a combined score of 873.  Daytona State and FIU claimed second and third with team scores of 874 and 876, respectively, while Maryland and Memphis rounded out the top five.  Cincinnati, Southern Mississippi, Delaware and North Texas finished ahead of the Eagles, with Jacksonville, Bradley, Drake, Bethune-Cookman, FAU, Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Western Illinois rounding out the field of 17.

Individually, FIU’s Coralia Arias claimed the tournament crown with a score of 210, just four strokes ahead of Carlson.  Arias carded a 69 in the third round to defeat the field.

Carlson recorded a bogey on the ninth hole to start the day before tallying birdies on the 12th and 18th holes to remain one under.  The senior bogeyed her second-to-last hole of the round, but responded to card one-final birdie to hold on to a score of 71.  The score combined with Carlson’s rounds of 72 and 71 on Sunday and Monday led her to a total score of 214, for her best tournament this season.

“I’m really proud of Brianna and the way she played this tournament,” Trew continued.  “She did a fantastic job and I’m so happy she was able to do everything she could to turn in a good number.”

Junior Georgia Price (Bude, England/Fort Myers High School) finished Tuesday’s round with a score of 74 to conclude the tournament with a card of 223.  Price recorded bogeys on her second and sixth holes before making par on each of her remaining holes.  She finished tied for 22nd in the field.

Mei Khuan Yong (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia/S.M.K. Cochrane) recorded a score of 81 on the day but finished ranked third among the Eagles and 58th overall with a total 233.

Chelsea Guoynes (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City Central High School) rounded out the Eagles’ team score with a 72 in the final round.  The score was Guoynes’ best round of the tournament and helped her move ahead to be ranked 65th in the field.

Megan Van Etten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell High School) was the final golfer on the Eagles’ lineup and concluded the tournament with a score of 256, after carding an 83 in the final round.

Individually, Sara Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn./Minnesota Virtual Academy) ranked 61st in the field with a third-round score of 80 and a total 234.  Rebecca Van Etten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell High School) added strokes to her second-round score for an 89 and finished the event with a 259.

The FIU Pat Bradley Invitational was the Eagles’ final event of the fall season.  The Green and Blue will resume action on February at the Florida State Match-Up in Tallahassee.
