@FGCU_VB Travels to Jacksonville for Midweek Matchup

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The FGCU women’s volleyball team will travel to Jacksonville Tuesday night to take on Jacksonville University in a midweek Atlantic Sun contest. The match at Swisher Gym is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

The Green and Blue enter Tuesday’s contest with a record of 12-15 and an Atlantic Sun mark of 8-6.  The team is looking to build off of its last victory against USC Upstate and continue strong conference play.

Junior outside hitter Jessica Barnes (Winter Haven, Fla./Haines City High School) currently tops the Eagle offense with 3.20 kills per set, while Kaitlin Holm (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers High School) adds 3.03 kills per set.  Olivia Mesner (Boca Raton, Fla./Spanish River High School) led the Eagles last week with 18 kills against USC Upstate and 53 kills on the week. 

Christine Pinder (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz High School) and Gigi Meyer (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS) have also aided the Eagles’ attack this year.  Pinder has added 2.58 kills per set, while Meyer produces an average of 10.56 assists per stanza.

Defensively, Whitney Masters (Muncie, Ind./Wapahani High School) leads the squad with a team-high 406 digs on the season, while Karina Mambuca (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast High School) leads all players with 81 blocks through 27 games.

LAST TIME OUT
The Eagles defeated USC Upstate 3-1 at Alico Arena on Saturday to snap a three-game losing streak. The FGCU attack was led by 18 kills from Mesner and 16 by Barnes, while Holm added 12 kills for the Green and Blue and recorded a team-high attack percentage at .478. 

Meyer produced 54 assists for the Eagles, while Masters again led the defense with 28 digs. As a team, the Eagles recorded an attack percentage of .235, while holding the Spartans to .155.  The team compiled 61 kills with 74 digs and six team blocks. 

SCOUTING JACKSONVILLE
JU enters the game ranked third in the A-Sun with a conference record of 11-2 and an overall mark of 22-3. The Dolphins are currently riding a 13-game winning streak, and are undefeated at home this season.

Sophomore Sammie Strausbaugh leads the Dolphins with an average of 3.24 kills per set, and leads the team in overall kills with 285. Sophomore Gabriela Roman is also a leading contributor to the team with an average of 2.74 kills per set, and 238 overall kills. Kendall Courtney has recorded 10.29 assists per set to aid in the team’s recent success.

Defensively, Rachel Miller is the team’s dig leader with an average of 3.07 digs per set. Kylie Jacob is the leader in blocks with 95 on the season.

As a team, the Dolphins have maintained a .259 attack percentage through 25 games, while holding opponents to .182. 

ON THE HORIZON
After the Eagles play in Jacksonville they will return to Alico Arena for Senior Day against in-state rival Stetson. The contest against is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9.
