FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU women’s basketball Head Coach Karl Smesko announced the signing of Tayler Goodall on Wednesday. Goodall will join the Eagles for the 2014-15 academic year.
“We are really excited to add Tayler Goodall to our program,” said Smesko of the Columbus, Ind. native. “She’s a very versatile and physical guard. She loves contact, she’s a good ball handler and a good shooter and she is somebody that will be a great addition to our team.”
As a three-year varsity letterwinner at Columbus North High School under head coach Pat McKee, Goodall has scored 866 points and grabbed 430 rebounds through 79 career games. Goodall guided her team to a record of 67-12 in three seasons and has helped the squad win two conference championships and a state sectional championship. As a junior she scored 13.8 points per game for the Bulldogs.
Individually, Goodall ranks ninth on the all-time scoring list at Columbus North and sits at fifth on the all-time list of made three-pointers with 71. She also ranks among the top-10 in rebounds and steals with one season to play.
During her junior season, Goodall set school records with 10 steals in one game and six three-pointers made in one game. She has also led the team in three-point shots made, three-point percentage and rebounds in each of the last two seasons.
The 5’9” guard was named to the Indiana Basketball Coaches’ Association Underclass All-State First Team last season and was recognized by the AP as an All-State High Honorable Mention. Goodall’s accolades continued with a First Team All-State nod by Hoosier Basketball Magazine, a First Team All-Area award by The Columbus Republic, a place on the All-Conference Indiana First Team and with an award for Most Outstanding Player at the Indiana Class All-Star Junior Game.
Goodall, who verbally committed to become a member of the Green and Blue in March, selected FGCU over Ball State, Bowling Green, Illinois State, Miami (Ohio) and Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
The Eagles will continue the 2013-14 slate next week as they host Charlotte in a 7 p.m. contest on Wednesday, Nov. 20.
