FORT MYERS, Fla. – As the 2013 Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament approaches, the FGCU women’s volleyball team has earned two positions on the 2013 All-Conference Team.  Kaitlin Holm and Olivia Mesner were both selected as All-Atlantic Sun Second Team honorees, while Gigi Meyer earned All-Conference Academic honors, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.

“I’m very excited for both Kaitlin and Olivia,” said head coach Dave Nichols.  “They are both really deserving of this honor.  Both have carried a heavy offensive load for us this season. What I like about both of them is that teams planned against them and yet they were both still really successful this season.  They pulled through for us all year and I am thrilled for Kaitlin and Olivia. This was well deserved.”

Holm (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers High School) picked up her second-consecutive Atlantic Sun honor after earning First-Team All-Conference accolades during the 2012 season.  This year, Holm led the team with 341 kills on the season and an average of 2.99 kills per set. She maintained an attack percentage of .252, while adding 112 digs and 75 total blocks in 114 sets played.

The senior held a single-game attack percentage of over .600 on two occasions and recorded a season-high 21 kills against Mercer in A-Sun action.  Holm added two double-digit dig performances for two double doubles during her senior campaign and recorded a remarkable nine blocks against Kennesaw State on Sept. 27.

Mesner (Boca Raton, Fla./Spanish River High School) ranked among the league’s top performers with a season-long attack percentage of .319 through 114 sets.  She finished the regular season with 320 kills for 2.81 kills per set and added 80 total blocks for the Green and Blue.

As a junior, Mesner recorded 25 kills on two occasions.  The single-game mark ranks third among the all-time program records.  Mesner also hit .658 in an A-Sun matchup with North Florida on Oct. 28 and recorded seven total blocks against Northern Kentucky on Oct. 19.

In addition to the two Second-Team mentions, junior setter Gigi Meyer (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz High School) earned Academic All-Atlantic Sun honors.  Meyer facilitated the Eagle offense this year with 1,204 assists on the season.  The junior communication major holds a grade point average of 3.90.

FGCU begins play in the 2013 Atlantic Sun Championship on Thursday with a tournament matchup against Stetson.  The Eagles earned the fourth seed in the tournament after finishing the regular season with a record of 9-9 in conference action and an overall record of 13-18.  The first-round match with Stetson is slated for 5:30 p.m. and will be available for viewing on ASun.TV.
