JACKSONVILLE – FGCU men’s tennis junior Jordi Vives (Barcelona, Spain/IES Ferran Tallada/USC) added to his list of postseason accolades on Sunday following the Atlantic Sun Championship, as he was named to the All-Tournament team.
Vives, the 2014 A-Sun men’s tennis Player of the Year, went undefeated in last weekend’s A-Sun championship winning both his singles and doubles matches against No. 6 Mercer and No. 2 North Florida.
“Jordi had a great tournament this year going undefeated in singles and doubles,” head coach CJ Weber said. “He and Dean have been playing very strong lately and beating UNF the way they did was a testament to their improvements throughout the season. I’m very proud of all Jordi’s accomplishments this year and I can’t wait to see what he still has in store.”
In the Eagles’ quarterfinal matchup against Mercer, Vives and doubles partner Dean Tsamas (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay HS) posted the first win for FGCU, defeating Austin Emmet and Oliver Snaider in the No. 1 slot, 8-6. In singles play the Barcelona native clinched the 4-0 victory for the Green and blue after a 7-5, 6-3 win over Oliver Snaider in the leading position.
Vives’ winning ways were duplicated in FGCU’s semifinals contest against UNF as he and Tsamas downed Caio Gomes and Yannick Zuern, 8-6, at one doubles before beating Gomes at one singles, 7-5, 6-1.
Vives ends his second season in Green and Blue with a dual match record of 20-2, and remained perfect in conference play going 10-0 throughout the regular season and the A-Sun Championship.
FGCU finished its third season under Weber with a program-high seven wins over A-Sun opponents and a Division-I best 12-10 overall record.
