FORT MYERS, Fla. – Weeks after representing FGCU in the NCAA Men’s Tennis Individual Championship, FGCU men’s tennis junior Jordi Vives is listed No. 55 in the final installment of Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, announced by ITA officials on Wednesday afternoon.
Released every week during the spring, the rankings list the nation’s top 125 singles players determined by a computerized system, using the ITA's average points-per-match formula.
Vives (Barcelona, Spain/IES Ferran Tallada/USC) ended his second campaign for the Eagles with an overall record of 35-5 after going 21-3 this spring. The Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year was the first from FGCU to qualify for the NCAA Championship and the first to receive an ITA national ranking.
On May 22 the junior soared past No. 116 Philippe Tsangaridis of Coastal Carolina to give the Green and Blue their first-ever NCAA postseason victory with 6-4, 6-3, win in the round of 64. The following day Vives’ season ended, as he fell in a tough three-set match to Vanderbilt’s No. 44 Ryan Lipman.
The accomplishments of the Barcelona native this season have elevated FGCU’s men’s tennis program to a new level. Vives will return for his senior season and will continue to bring success to The Nest through both his talent on the court and high-quality of his personal character.
