Ogden's blast lifts Eagles over Lynn

Naples, FL – The FGCU softball team split two games with Lynn University today 3-2, and 12-2 at Gulf Coast High School. In the first game, Freshman Erin Ogden crushed a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Eagles a 3-2 advantage, and the first game of the double header. Freshman starter Christine Beck pitched her second consecutive complete game, as she is now 2-0. Beck struck out 5 batters, while giving up 2 earned runs. Offensively the Eagles were led by Erin Ogden who went 2-for-3, scoring two runs, and knocking in two runs. Catcher Lindsay Ijjas went 2-for-2 while Ashley Cecil, Christine Beck, and Natasha Meyer all had one hit in the victory. The second game of the double header proved to be similar as yesterday’s second game against FSC. Carolyn Underhill struggled again, as she gave up 7 earned runs and 12 hits. The Lady Knights jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead in the first two innings. Jessica Adcock had a big day as the first basemen went 2-for-3, crushing a three-run homer to give Lynn a commanding lead. The Eagles were led by Erin Ogden and Blaire Toleman, who each had a hit and drove in a run. The Eagles are now 2-2 on the season, and will travel to Ft. Lauderdale to take on Nova Southeastern February 15th at 1:00 p.m.
