Lakeland, FL – The FGCU softball team defeated Florida Southern twice today in a double header 5-3, 10-8. In both games the Eagles came from behind to win proving they have what it takes to respond when their backs are against the wall. In the first game the Eagles trailed 3-0 going into the last inning, and scored 5 runs to give them their third win on the season. Erin Ogden led off the inning with a single. Blair Toleman flied to left field, and Lacey Carter struck out, which seemed like the Eagles would lose their seventh game of the season. However, after Christine Beck popped up a fly ball, which was dropped by the FSC short stop, the Eagles began their comeback. Kelly Morgan would follow with a single as Ogden scored to cut the lead to 3-1. Adrienne Cicirello then came to bat, and responded as she singled in Beck cutting the lead to 3-2. Ashley Cecil singled in the tying run as Natasha Meyer, who pinch ran for Morgan scored. Kristy Ringler then came up and doubled scoring two runs on the play to give the Eagles a 5-3 lead in which they didn’t look back. Nicole Werhner picked up her first win of the season as she threw a complete game, giving up one earned run, and striking out a batter. Kristy Ringler led the way offensively as she went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI’s. In the second game, the Eagles trailed 7-4 going into the top of the sixth inning, only to respond with three runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh to give them a 10-8 victory. Blaire Toleman led the way offensively as she went 3-for-4, scoring 2 runs and driving in 5 RBI’s. Erin Ogden had a solid performance as she went 1-for-3 with 2 runs scored, and 2 RBI’s. Christine Beck went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Nicole Werhner picked up her second win as she came in to relieve Beck in the fifth inning. The Eagles now improve to 4-6 on the season, and will play a double header Tuesday, February 25th beginning at 11 am at the Lee County Sports Complex against Alma and Adrian College.
