FORT MYERS, Fla., - The #16th ranked FGCU Softball team won its 19th straight game with a doubleheader sweep of Edinboro. FGCU won game one 6-0 and game two 10-0 in five innings to improve to 38-3 on the year. In game one, Carmen Paez (Belle Glade, Fla.) was a wrecking crew, blasting two homeruns as she drove in three. Paez was 2-for-3 in the game. Rachel Homan (Vero Beach, Fla.) added a homer, as she also went 2-for-3. Paez drilled her first homer in the first inning as this game was never in doubt. The Eagles scored a run in each of the first three innings. Rachael Edinger (Lakeland, Fla.) cruised to her 18th straight win to move to 18-0 on the season. Edinger went the distance and allowed three hits while striking out six batters. The Eagles took little time taking control of the second game. Homan led off with a triple and came home on a fielder’s choice by Paez. Jessica Rouse (Jacksonville, Fla.) then tripled and drove in Paez. Desiree Miller (Hartville, Ohio) singled to give the Eagles the 3-0 lead. The Eagles continued to add runs in the second with Rouse delivering the big blow, a three-run shot to put the Eagles up 7-0. FGCU tacked on three more runs to take a 10-0 lead as game two ended after five innings. Dana Frantz (Brighton, Mich.) picked up the win for the Eagles, her 17th. Frantz allowed a pair of hits while striking out five batters in 5.0 innings. The Eagles will be back in action again tomorrow at 2:00 pm when they host Central Connecticut State in a doubleheader.
