VALDOSTA, Ga., - FGCU advanced to the South Region championship game with a 4-3 win over Barry. The Eagles will now face Florida Southern for the right to represent the South Region in the World Series.

The Eagles got on the board first in the second inning. Jessica Rouse (Jacksonville, Fla.) led off with a single and Desiree Miller (Hartville, Ohio) hit her sixth homer of the year to put FGCU up early. The Bucs manufactured a run in the top of the third to cut the lead to 2-1.

Rachel Homan (Vero Beach, Fla.) extended her 19-game hitting streak with a lead-off homer in the third. For Homan, it was also her third homerun of the NCAA South Regional. After a pitching change that brought Casey Pyron in for the Bucs, Cheyenne Jenks (Naples, Fla.) sent her first offering over the center field fence for a 4-1 FGCU lead. The Eagles then loaded the bases with no outs, but Barry was able to get out of the inning with no further damage.

Barry made things interesting in the top of the seventh. An error by the Eagles to lead off the inning, set up a two-run homer by Pyron, the first of her career. Two more singles around a sacrifice bunt gave the Bucs a pair of runners with one out. Rachael Edinger (Lakeland, Fla.) came in to get the last two outs for her sixth save of the year. Dana Frantz (Brighton, Mich.) picked up her third win of the regional and improves to 29-4 on the season.

The Eagles will now face Florida Southern for the South Region Championship. The Eagles need to beat the Mocs twice to advance to the World Series.
