Softball Eliminates #7 Alabama-Huntsville

VALDOSTA, Ga., - The FGCU softball team kept their season alive with a 6-3 win over #7 Alabama-Huntsville, the #2 seed in the south Region. Carmen Paez (Belle Glade, Fla.) hit her 27th homer of the season, setting a NCAA Division II record for homeruns in a season.

The Eagles put up three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Rachel Homan (Vero Beach, Fla.) led off with a single. The Eagles had three more hits including a pair of doubles by Paez and Jessica Rouse (Jacksonville, Fla.) to drive in the runs. Huntsville got on the board in the fourth inning.

The Eagles then added three runs in the bottom of the fifth with Paez's record breaking homer.

Rachael Edinger (Lakeland, Fla.) picked up her 29th win of the season with a complete game. Edinger fanned seven batters in the game.

Paez was 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored and four RBI in the game. Cheyenne Jenks (Naples, Fla.) went 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs in the game.

The Eagles will play tomorrow at 1:30 pm against Valdosta State.
