Eagles Blank FAMU, 8-0, On Final Day of the USF Wilson Tournament
Tampa, Fla. - Junior shortstop Jessica Paez (Belle Glade, Fla.) went 2-for-4 with a homerun and three RBIs as the FGCU softball team captured an 8-0 win over FAMU on Monday afternoon at the University of South Florida Wilson Tournament.
With the win, the Eagles improve to 5-5 on the season, while FAMU slips to 2-8.
In addition to Jessica Paez’s good night at the plate the Eagles also received solid play from Carmen Paez (Belle Glade, Fla.), Amanda Leiter (Naples, Fla.) and Courtney Platt (Naples, Fla.) Carmen Paez finished the game 1-for-2 with a homerun and two RBIs. C. Paez’s homerun was her fourth homer in the last five games. Leiter finished 1-for-2 with two RBI’s, while Platt, who leads the team in batting average, went 1-for-1 with one RBI and two walks.
Rachel Edinger (Lakeland, Fla.), the reigning A-Sun Pitcher of the Week, picked up her third win of the season. Edinger pitched 6.0 innings while striking out nine batters.
FGCU will next be in action when they host the FGCU Spring Break Invitational from Feb. 22-24 at the FGCU Softball Complex.
