JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The FGCU softball team swept the Jacksonville Dolphins in the Eagles’ conference opening doubleheader on Friday night.  The Eagles took game one 20-3 in five innings and won game two 19-2 in six innings.

FGCU got off to a good start in game one, scoring in all five innings.  Jessica Gary (Naples, Fla.) tripled and scored on a sac fly off the bat of Samantha Waldron (Plant City, Fla.), giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the first.  In the second inning, FGCU scored seven runs, all with two outs.  Jessica Paez (Belle Glade, Fla.), Cheyenne Jenks (Naples, Fla.) and Samantha Waldron hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the inning.  The Eagles would go on to add four more in the third, three in the fourth, and five runs in the fifth inning.  Cat McDaniel (Melbourne, Fla.) earned the win, improving to 13-0, allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits and three walks.

In game two, the Eagles once again got on the board right away, putting up three runs in the first inning thanks to a two-run home run from Jessica Paez and a solo shot from Samantha Waldron.  Paez connected again in the second inning, this time for a three-run bomb, putting the Eagles up 6-0.  FGCU would take a 9-2 lead into the sixth inning, when they exploded for a 10-run inning.  The inning included six hits, one JU error, a hit-by-pitch, and three walks, two of which were intentional walks of Cheyenne Jenks.  For the day, Jenks finished 1-for-2 with a home run, a flyout to the right field fence, and seven intentional walks.

The Eagles wrap up their short Jacksonville road trip with a doubleheader at North Florida tomorrow afternoon.  First pitch for the first game is set for 2:00 PM.
