Eagles Ranked No. 23 in Ultimate College Softball Poll
FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University softball team is ranked 23rd in the nation in the latest Ultimate College Softball poll. The poll was released late Tuesday morning (April 21).
The Eagles (42-8) have moved down four spots in the poll after being ranked 19th in last week’s poll, which was the program’s sixth-ever Division I ranking. The FGCU softball team recently finished 2-2 last weekend after facing both FIU and Campbell in double header action. The Eagles have now won 34 of their last 38 games.
The FGCU softball team also received four votes in this week's ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll the Amateur Softball Association announced on Tuesday.
This is the seventh time that the Eagles have earned votes in the ESPN.com national poll.
Senior Cheyenne Jenks (Naples, Fla.) leads the team with a .470 batting average. Jenks also has 57 runs scored, 63 hits, 22 home runs, 70 RBIs, 140 total bases and 50 walks. Senior Jessica Paez (Belle Glade, Fla.) is hitting .337 with 14 home runs and 59 RBIs. Junior transfer Catherine McDaniel (Melbourne, Fla.) anchors the pitching staff. She is 19-1 this season with 105 strikeouts in her 127.2 innings from the circle. McDaniel has an ERA of 1.97 and has pitched 14 complete games, including six shutouts.
