FGCU Softball to Host Alumni Game
FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast softball team has announced it will hold its first Alumni Day on Saturday, February 6th beginning at 2:00 PM. The Home Run Derby will begin at approximately 2:15 followed by the Alumni Softball Game. The event is open to the public and admission is FREE. Players and coaches will be available for autographs.
“We are very excited to host our first Alumni Softball event. These young women have helped build a very strong foundation for our program and we want to honor their commitment with a tribute especially for them.”
Approximately 17 former players are expected to return to campus including six members of the inaugural team--Christine Beck, Ashley Cecil Spencer (FGCU’s first All-American and former assistant coach), Lindsey Ijjas, Kristy Ringler Sewell, Blaire Toleman, and Nicole Werhner. Other alums returning to play include two-time All-South Region Pitcher Rachael Edinger, 2009 First Team Atlantic Sun Conference and All-South Region 1B Jessica Carter, and 2009 Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year and All-American 3B Cheyenne Jenks.
Alumni Day ends later that evening when the 2008 Atlantic Sun Regular Season Championship Team will be honored during a ceremony at halftime of the Women’s Basketball Game vs. Campbell (approx. 7:30 PM start time).
