FGCU Softball Hosts Drake on Thursday

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU softball team will host Drake University in a single game Thursday night (March 18) before traveling to Clearwater for the USF The Game tournament this weekend. First pitch for Thursday’s game is set for 6 p.m. at the FGCU Softball Complex.

The Eagles (11-14) went 0-3 at the USF Under Armour Showcase tournament last weekend. On Saturday, the Blue and Green lost to New Mexico State, 7-5, in eight innings before falling to Stony Brook, 6-3. FGCU wrapped up the tournament with a 4-2 loss to Penn State on Sunday morning.

Jessica Gary (Naples, Fla.) leads the Eagles with a .356 batting average, just ahead of Courtney Platt (Greenville, Ohio), who is hitting .348. Platt leads the team with six home runs and 18 RBIs, while Gary is second in both categories with five home runs and 17 RBIs.

Drake (15-6) recorded a 3-1 record at the USF Under Armour Showcase, defeating Boston College, New Mexico State, and Long Island. On Tuesday, the Bulldogs swept a doubleheader at USF, and followed that with a 5-0 win at UCF on Wednesday night.

Erin Mollohan leads Drake with a .364 average, followed by Lindsey Vande Wall at .353. Elena Leon has hit a team-leading five home runs to go along with a .302 batting average. Mollohan, Vande Wall, and Leon are all tied for the team lead with 12 RBIs.

First pitch for Thursday’s single game is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the FGCU Softball Complex.
